Texas Hold'em Poker Glossary
Aces Up: Poker hand of 2 pairs, the highest pair being Aces
All In: When a player bets all his chips at one go.
Blinds: This is short for "blind bets," - the forced bets made before the cards are dealt.
Big Blind: The player, 2 places to the left of the dealer who has to make a bet of double the small blind before he can see his cards.
Burn Card: The card which is dealt face down before any community card.
Button: This is a nickname for the player acting as the dealer during the current hand.
Call: To call is to match the previous bet when playing Poker
Check: This is similar to a call, but in this case no money is bet. If there is no raise pre-flop, then the big blind may check.
Fifth Street: See River.
Flop: Refers to the first three community cards dealt.
Fold: This is to discard your hand and not risk any more money thus giving up any chance of winning the pot.
Fourth Street: See Turn.
Full House: Very good Poker card hand made up of three of a kind plus a pair.
Hole Cards: These are cards which are only known to the player that holds them
Kicker: When for example 2 players have pairs of equal value then the kicker will decide the advantage ie. A pair of Aces with a King kicker will beat a pair of Aces with a Queen kicker.
Pocket Cards: See Hole Cards
Pre-flop: Anything that occurs before the flop is dealt is referred to as pre- flop.
River: The final (5th) community card dealt; this is also referred to as fifth street.
Showdown: This is the point at which players reveal their hands to discover the winner of the pot.
Small Blind: The player to the left of the dealer who has to make a bet before he can see his cards.
Trips: 3 of a kind in Poker
Turn: This is the fourth community card which is dealt; also referred to as fourth street.
